Jody: I need you to hand me those books. All of those books.
Patron: You’re going to have to find your own.
Jody: Let me try again. You can’t take those books.
Patron: That’s not true. Why I can just walk right out that door and --
Jody: You are not allowed to leave with those books. The library system will not let you check them out. And if you walk out the door without checking them out, that’s stealing.
Patron: Fine. But can I just keep this one? It looks SO good.

I’m sometimes tempted to leave a little note when I see an especially good thing on the holds shelf. I have resisted the urge so far.
