Salesperson: I’ll give you a copy if you promise to review it.
Martin: What if I don’t like it?
Salesperson: That’s fine. Bad publicity is better than no publicity at all.
Martin: When I don’t like a book, I prefer not to talk about it.
Salesperson: You can say whatever you’d like about this one, really. It’s okay.
Martin: In fact, bad books can turn me into a monster.
Martin: Don’t tell anyone, but sometimes, when I don’t like a book, I won’t even finish it.

Hey, a relatable comic. I do still review books that I don’t finish, but I write at the top “I didn’t get more than 19% through this book” or whatever. Sometimes, though, I hate a book so much that I write a ‘Not a review’ where I just vent. I don’t put those on Amazon, though.
I reserve 1-star reviews for “book was so bad I could not finish it,” on Goodreads. I think I have fewer than five of these, however. I’m clearly more tenacious than Martin.
“I was waiting for it to improve. It did not. My day is ruined, and my disappointment is immeasurable.”
