Martin: What if everyone in town chose a book together, read it, and then chatted about it wherever they happened to meet?
Grant: Unrealistic.

Grant: What if everyone who pretended a book you chose got together to discuss it, but instead talked about TV while drinking wine?

Martin: That’s sadly realistic. What if everyone took notes while reading a book that librarians agree is great, both to show they understood it and to help them take part in requisite discussions about its literary merit?
Grant: What if they didn’t?

Martin: There would be consequences. Dire consequences.
Grant: What if everyone resented the same librarian?
