Patron: You’re not smart enough to edit my manuscript.
Martin: I’ve been trying to tell you that I’m not an expert.
Patron: Your opinion doesn’t matter to me.
Martin: Great.
Patron: Nonetheless I am insulted.
Martin: You have no reason to be. I never said that I didn’t like your book.
Patron: So you do like it?
Martin: No. But I thought it was rude to say so before you asked me directly.

Patron: Nonetheless I am insulted.

Martin: No. But I thought it was rude to say so before you asked me directly.
I was once in Martin’s exact position. Somehow (through magic? I don’t know how I ended up saying ‘yes’) I agreed to review a patron’s manuscript in exactly this way.
