Graphic Novel Review: Dwellings by Jay Stephens

Dwellings by Jay Stephens. Oni Press, 2024. 9781637152911. 272pp. Contains #1 – #6 originally published by Black Eye Books. Includes a cover gallery.

I hope you love the cover of this collection as much as I do. Inside are six tales that take place in Elwich, a small town full of super smart (and hungry) crows, murderers, demons, cults, and lots of swearing. The stories’ goriness is mitigated by the fact that the book is drawn in a style that makes it look like it takes place in the same world as Harvey’s kid-friendly Casper the Friendly Ghost comics, and by the funny ads that are so close to what I saw in comic books when I was a kid (at least until you look at them closely).

It’s supernatural mayhem — complete with corpse-eating crows — as promised by the cover!
