  2. This is not meant as a criticism at all. Please take this as merely an interesting question. I have always wondered why some cartoon illustrators draw standing people with their fingers curling back, like the milk drinker here. I first noticed this with drawings of The Flintstones (see, for example, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Flintstone, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barney_Rubble, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Jetson.

  3. Hi Jeff, I’m the artist. I appreciate your question! There are two main reasons: First, it’s observed from life. Many people while standing normally with their hands at their side have their fingers curl slightly instead of hanging straight down. It’s comfortable for the fingers. Secondly, while some people’s hands do flatten out very straight on a resting position, it makes for kind of a stiff drawing. Such a person in a comic strip might look robotic, which is rarely the goal.
