Hello McFly (McGrant). Didn’t they teach you in library school about checking nearby library catalogues? You can start the reference interview by asking whether they can get to the next town, and, if so, check their catalog. Check the consortia catalog. Check the catalogs for the libraries near where they work/go to school. If all else fails, let me introduce you to a handy little service called WorldCat. Does your library still do ILL? So, you see, McGrant, there are plenty of ways to help your patron get the book they need now, “just in time,” instead of waiting to purchase it later, “just in case” they still need it.
