One never knows what someone may need to borrow. However, I have all of the supplies out *on* the desk. It surprises me when my students ask if they could borrow something. Of course, I am always polite and remind them that these are for their use. I know that they are just being polite, but if I didn’t want them to use the stapler/hole puncher/ruler/pencil sharpener, etc., I wouldn’t have them out.
