Public School Librarian. I know it is hard to let them go, but you are doing your patrons a favor. By NOT having shelves jammed tight with books that aren’t getting circulation, you make it easier for them to find what you keep! This is coming from a person who TRIES to apply the same at home, and struggles. Also, former PT book seller – I try to make sure the titles that stay are worthy of the real estate.

They may have read it while they were in the library. I’ve done that a lot. I’m a fast reader.
As long as you don’t re-shelve it (and you NEVER should – see “Party Girl”), it can be counted as in-house use for stats.
Public Librarian. I always have that feeling, but temper it with “we only have this much room, so…” Plus, ILL.
We can’t keep everything, as much as I wish we could.
