Stephanie: Conserving my energy for after my shift ends.

  1. Funny, isn’t it, how a character as phlegmatic as Stephanie can be such a (furtive? and) passionate author.

Standing behind the reference desk, she always gives the distinct impression that she’d rather be almost anywhere else. I recall that when her character was introduced, she was constantly sighing, openly bored and plainly demonstrating that she wished that the information seeker would leave as soon as possible.

BTW, I love the contrast in dispositions and styles of all the characters in “Library COMIC.” Although obviously exaggerated (which is why the strips are so hilarious), there is a lot of reality that I have seen and experienced in decades of being both a library user and and librarian. Just as in “Unshelved,” I feel as if I actually know these wonderfully fleshed-out, imaginative, hyperbolic, fictitious denizens of the “LC” (no pun intended) world! I always look forward to their further (mis)adventures! Thanks, Chris and Gene!

  2. Ah, that explains everything.
