(A patron is wandering the stacks, looking at books.)
Martin: He’s just wandering around, looking at the books.
Grant: That’s suspicious.
Martin: Why? He’s just looking for something to read.
Grant: It’s weird. These days people know what they’re looking for and they go right to it.
Martin: He’s starting an intellectual, real-world journey.
Grant: Or he's just lost.

It’s funny because I put stuff on hold ONLY and never browsed the shelves until I started working in the library. Now that I have a better understanding of the DDC, it makes browsing more fun!

I once had a patron tell me that if he finds a book he’s interested in on the shelf, he’ll look at the books around it because they’re usually about the same topic. I told him we do that on purpose.
