    Oddly, one of my branch managers tells me she fixed most of the problems with patrons misunderstanding the self-check through the expedient of switching off ALL the beeps. This actually gets them to look at the screen.

    Ah yes, patrons who try to scan the ISBN instead of the library barcode.
