Graphic Novel Review: Mimosa by Archie Bongiovanni

Mimosa by Archie Bongiovanni. Abrams Comicarts, 2023. 9781419752438.

Friends Chris, Alex, Jo, and Elise decide to organize a special dance night for queer folks over 30 because they all need it. Alex, an artist, sees to the details. Jo agrees to present as Mxtress Josephine. Elise starts an affair with her hot boss. Chris, a single parent (their kid Pepper calls them Ma-Pa), struggles with several issues and is mostly hoping to get laid at the event. Nothing goes according to plan.

The conversations these friends share are hilarious. Secrets are revealed and bad decisions made, including a horrific parenting moment most of us with kids can relate to. It’s great to see friends try to support each other, fail, get stuck in their own crap, and then pick up the pieces. This book is a quick read in the best way, and I already know five people I’m recommending it to.
