We’ll take that book, and if our selectors decide not to shelf it, at least the Friends of the Library will help it find a home. Reply jeffy says: January 20, 2022 at 11:25 am Useful PSA. I’m puzzled by the fatalism of the last panel, but it may be my privilege of having a library that has almost always bought the books I’ve suggested. Reply Gene Ambaum says: January 20, 2022 at 3:26 pm That fatalism is either a reflection of a budget reality or of where the character is (or both). 🙂 Reply Michael says: January 21, 2022 at 10:47 am Having worked as a collection development librarian under severe budget restraints (at the time. the library had no public funding and was supported by donations), I can say that it can be possible to fulfill the vast majority of patron requests if you are dedicated to it in principle. That said, I’ve worked for larger systems with multiple patrons that put in hundreds of requests, which is simply impossible with any budget. This patron’s singular request should be a piece of cake. But there is no guarantee that it will be added. Reply Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
