The fibre in those pages may keep him regular, but it will not keep him young. You will get more out of a book by reading it, rather than eating it.
When they said, “Devour a good book!”, they didn’t mean it literally.
But is it kosher? And, if it has bugs or other vermin, it’s no longer veggie, and certainly not vegan.
Kids presumably don’t know any better, but he should. He WILL have to pay for it, though.
