Comic Specifications
Makeau comics
Pages should measure 26cm high x 18cm wide. That’s about 10 1/4″ x 7 1/8″ (but please check me). For now, please deliver a file that size with no white space around it at 600dpi and 300dpi.
My basic plan is to eventually print this on an 11″ x 8 1/4″ page.
This is still in flux.
Daily Library Comic comics
In general file name should be yyyy-mm-dd-(4 digit strip number)_(2 digit panel number in case of images of a single panel that’s part of a multipanel comic)_(square if the image is squared for posting).
Dates and 4 digit strip numbers will be assigned when the script is scheduled.
example: 2018-09-24-0486_03.png
Here’s a list of what I need for each comic. Please send files via your Dropbox File Request URL.
- Native file from whatever program you used to create the comic.
- Chris used Clip Studio.
- Pat also used Clip Studio.
- Complete comic for posting on Tumblr, Facebook.
file name: yyyy-mm-dd-(4 digit strip number assigned)
single 2000 x 2500 png file (including white gutters around strip)
Bottom of Panel 3: Library Comic by Gene Ambaum and Willow Payne
Bottom of Panel 4: (c) (year) Ambauminable LLC
example: https://librarycomic.tumblr.com/image/178421748804
- Complete Comic (square format) for posting on Instagram and Twitter:
file name: yyyy-mm-dd-(4 digit strip number assigned)_square
single square png file at least 1080 x 1080
Under Panel 3: Library Comic by Gene Ambaum and Willow Payne
Under Panel 4: (c) (year) Ambauminable LLC
example: see panel 5 of https://www.instagram.com/p/BoHsnfyFHku/?taken-by=librarycomic
- Single Panels for posting on website:
file name: yyyy-mm-dd-(4 digit strip number)_(2 digit panel number)
(up to 4) 400 x 506 png files.
Panels include gutters and need to be divided so that they look like a single 4 panel image when viewed together.

Bottom of Panel 4: (c) (year) Ambauminable LLC
example: https://librarycomic.com/comic/485/ (you can grab each panel individually)
Note that the gutter is weirdly inconsistent because of the credits at the bottom of the image. Chris created a Photoshop Action that works on the flat high-res file to create these.
- Single Square Panels for posting on Instagram:
(up to 4) 1080 x 1080 png files
file name: yyyy-mm-dd-(4 digit strip number)_(2 digit panel number)_square
Square versions of single panels.
Each image should be a square png at least 1080 x 1080
example: see first four images of https://www.instagram.com/p/BoHsnfyFHku/?taken-by=librarycomic
on each panel (possibly to the right of the image, sideways): Library Comic by Willow Payne and Gene Ambaum | (c) (year) Ambauminable LLC
Conference Tips:
File Name: yyyy-mm(of conference)-Tip_(1 digit Tip#, usually the order in which they’re created)-(2 digit panel number when needed)_(square as needed)
I need the same files as above featuring just the art, the credits, and the (c) info.
Because these are going to be printed, I also need a high-res PDF or PNG / TIFF of the each, suitable for printing with the Conference Tip: Text across the top, and something like “Visit Library Comic at booth #xxxx” across the bottom, large, under our credits / url. (see sample) These can exceed the heigh restrictions given above for regular comics. They’re their own thing.
Please upload files to the Dropbox file sharing request provided to you.
Book Club comics format:
File name: yyyy-mm-dd-(4 digit strip number)-bookclub-(2 digit panel number when needed)_(square as needed)
As above except note title, author of book under panels 3 and 4 like “Part of a review of [title] by [authors]” as specified in the script.
Please upload files to the Dropbox file sharing request provided to you.
