I know a book sniffer too, only she tends to sniff the new books that haven’t yet accumulated much if any dust.

I was in an accident several years ago, and out of work for most of a year. The first time I went into a library, I almost cried: it was the first time I’d smelled the scent of rooms full of books since before my accident. There’s nothing like it, and you don’t realize you miss it until you encounter it like I did. 🙂

Smell is the most powerful trigger to the memory there is. A certain flower or a whiff of smoke can bring up experiences long forgotten. Books smell musty and rich. The knowledge gained from a computer has no texture, no context. It’s there and then it’s gone. If it’s to last, then the getting of knowledge should be tangible, it should be smelly. – Rupert Giles, Buffy the Vampire Slayer

If a computer is smelly, that’s normally a very bad sign! 😉
